I never would have picked up this book had I not laughed out loud at the movie preview. I didn’t even know it was a book until I saw it sitting faced out on the bookshelf at Barnes and Noble. Anyway, I blew through this one in about 5 hours. I rated it 3 out of 5 on Goodreads because predictable. It’s a teen novel that includes the following: highschool {duh}, cheerleaders {duh, again}, a friend who is cool as hell but not as pretty as her friends {or at least that’s how she feels}, a crush and a bad boy. I’ll give you 2 guesses as to what happens and the first guess doesn’t count.

Predictability aside, the message is clear: Every girl, at some point in their life, has felt like the Duff. I have felt that way. You have felt that way. The prettiest girls on Earth have felt that way. And our MC, Bianca/the Duff, struggles with the feelings of inadequacy and we struggle with her as she goes from the Duff to believing that she is awesome just as she is. I cheered a little when she finally figured it all out.

This is a feel good story even though it follows familiar outline. I have a feeling that the movie will be nothing like the book but that might be a good thing. Anyway, this is a decent story with a witty MC and an ending everyone loves. Read at your own risk. And remember that you’re gorgeous, funny, and imperfectly perfect.

  1. Not sure how I missed your review of this one, but I actually have this checked out from the library and just haven’t read it yet. But if you read it in like 5 hours, it should be about the same for me. Going to check this one out next, I think!

    • Thank you, friend!!! If you want a quick, easy, fun read, then this is it. I can’t wait to see the movie. Ps. I’ve been watching a lot of Buffy lately and I always think of you 😁
