Pages: a lot (I don’t have the book with me so I’m not sure)
Genre: Fantasy, Humor, Contemporary

Y’all this is going to be short and sweet. I love LOVE LOVELOVE!!! Rainbow Rowell. However…….this book fell way short for me. I loved the characters and the premise but I hated the “magical telephone” what? *scratches head* I depend on Rowell to give me real. Not a rotary phone that calls 1998.

I read this book in about two hours. That’s how good her writing is. But when I was done, I tossed the book aside and said, “What the hell did I just read?”

Anyway, that’s all I got. Love Rainbow, Don’t love Landline. Read it for yourself though as you may love it.

  1. Sounds like such a good premise, sorry it didn’t do it for you. There’s an anime about a microwave that sends messages to the past, Steins;Gate. It’s weird, but I liked it.

  2. Oh, I’m sorry the phone annoyed you! It is a departure from her straight contemp books, which I adore. But I just finished it this morning and loved it. I didn’t mind the phone but that might be because I really, really loved Georgie and Neal, even though they broke my heart sometimes. I liked that they were messed up and kinda broken themselves at times but that they pushed through it all to be together.

    • I loved them too and I felt the phone took away from them. It felt a bit contrived. I love Rainbow and her writing. I’m so glad you loved it šŸ˜‰ I too felt an immense amount of pain and struggle as I watched them drift apart and back together. It was very emotional. And I loved Noomie, meow.

  3. that’s interesting- she let slip at the author signing that her next book will be a fantasy so it will be interesting to see how you like the total change of genre rather than just the one element of the story being fantasy…

  4. Hmm.. Sounds like something I won’t be adding to my TBR list. I like how you’re very honest in your book reviews and provide a kind-of down-to-earth assessment of the book! šŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Rachana!! That’s exactly what I am going for šŸ˜Š And in regards to the book, I seem to be a minority in not liking the phone thing. I guess since Rowell is always so realistic, this book threw me off. {had I read the synopsis I would’ve known but I don’t like reading the blurbs. It ruins surprises for me}. If you do read this I’ll be curious as to how you feel about it. Thanks again for your comment:) it made my day!!
