When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O’Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds.

Then Graham finds out that Ellie’s Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media’s spotlight at all costs? – Summary from Goodreads

This was just okay for me. The writing didn’t blow me away and the story line didn’t either. However, that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t enjoyable.

Graham sent an email to the wrong email address. Ellie gets a weird email referring to someone’s pig, Wilbur. But instead of ignoring it, Ellie strikes up a conversation with this stranger {known only as “G} which turns into a witty, sweet volley of emails. “E” {as she is known} doesn’t know who this person is but she knows that she loves whatever it is that has started between them. What happens when the famous and handsome Graham Larkin arrives in Ellie’s small town of Henley, Maine to film a movie unfolds on the pages of this novel.

This is a cute book, guys. It may not wow you or knock your socks off but it’s a quick {I read it in one sitting}, fun read and you can’t help but root for Graham the whole time. I love Ellie’s character as she is a spit-fire who doesn’t give Graham any leeway for being famous. She busts his chops and he loves it. It’s cute to watch…read?…watch? Whatever, you know what I mean! Also, I loved the way Jennifer E. Smith conveys the anticipation and giddiness that comes with something as simple as an email. I’ve been there…I know what it’s like to read an email from your person and have it light you up from the inside. It can be something as silly as a hello or a recap of a day or it can be a love note or a thought. It doesn’t matter. It makes your head swim with happiness. And Smith nails it in this book.

PS. Having worked in the movies for bit, I really enjoyed the filming aspect of this book. I kept going “oh yeah, I know what that’s like!” Definitely fun to read!

Anyway, if you’re looking for a Notting Hill-ish book that’s got some super cute characters and is a quick, fun book, then this is your read.

Buy on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and The Book Depository.

      • Aha, seems like it would give you a different perspective on TV/film though. That’s really cool. I always wonder what it’s really like “on set” and how everything happens. I just read O, Africa! which is about filmmaking (and other things) and it was interesting to get a different perspective on it.

  1. Sounds pretty good! I don’t read a lot of YA contemporary but I’d like to read more. It’s nice to have a break from the heavy stuff with something quick and light like this. I’ll definitely give it a look 🙂

    • This is a cute one…definitely a change from the more serious stuff. I’m so used to quick reads that the longer, doorstopper books I have intimidate me BIG time. But I need to read more of the adult fiction books I have.
